At Foothill High school, we are known for our athletics. Sports at foothill are very competitive. Our football team did very good this year. They won League!! Our football seniors did there job to have a very successful year. Some our sports need improvements and adjustments. But that can always be fixed during their physical practices. Our spring sports are right around the corner. Foothills division 1 softball team has a successful year in front of them. They have strong defense and offense. The softball team has great potential and strength to win CIF. Our boys lacrosse team returns with a lot of there starters. The lacrosse team has been very successful in the past year, and has no problem being a strong team this year. Their offense and defense is very strong. At foothill high, we treat our athletes like gold. But we do expect them to perform in the classroom just as well as their sports. We as a team need to keep everyone on track. Good luck to all of our sports at Foothill High school!!

Babel by Marcelo Duarte February 21, 2007

According to the narrative in the Genesis Chapter 11 of the Bible, the Tower of Babel was a tower built by humanity to reach the heavens. God, observing the humanity working as a collective group towards that goal, observing the unity in humanity, decided to destroy the tower, and confuse the previously uniform language of humanity, in order to prevent such attempts. In the same chapter, Babel is etymologized by association with the Hebrew verb Babal “To confuse or confound”.
Through a series of misunderstandings, Babel interweaves many stories that are seemingly unrelated, but are actually tied together by a string of events. It tells the story of a Mexican immigrant who goes back to Mexico to attend her son’s wedding, with the children she baby-sits, and has troubles coming back in, the parents of those kids who traveled to Morocco, where the wife is accidentally shot by two boys, whom are part of a different storyline, of the boys and the family. The rifle they used was bought by a man who acquired it from a Japanese hunter who traveled to Morocco. The Japanese family is part of another storyline, depicting mostly the Japanese man’s deaf-mute daughter and her struggles with society.
The movie depicts a series of tragic events in all storylines, switching back and forth between each, to show how the world is so out of touch with itself, and our difficulty communicating in society. Those are demonstrated in each of the storylines, and helps tell the tale of all these families. The characters are brilliantly portrayed by the actors, whom are interlinked in an almost random way. Each story has problems that they must face up to, and it makes for some incredible emotions showcased in different ways by different people, in different situations, but yet so alike. Nominated for 7 Oscars, including Best Picture of the Year, and 2 nominations for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, 142, rated R. Starring Brad Pitt, Kate Blanchett, Adriana Barraza, Rinko Kikuchi. This movie is definitely worth watching.

Havasu Landing Resort and Casino, Henry Eickhoff February 21, 2007

Havasu landing is one of my favorite getaways for the weekend. The drive from Tustin can take anywhere from three hours to five and a half hours to get there from door to door. This resort isn’t what you think it is it is a mobile home park but it is not your average park. This place has lakefront views and some of the best desert riding in California. This place is great, my family owns a house there and we go all year round, we go there in the summer to go on the lake and take our boat out then we also go in the winter to go dirt biking it is always fun and we have a lot of friends that have houses out there. I love this place so much that I will be going there the rest of my life hopefully buying a house out there. Everyone I have talked to about this place they never say anything bad about Havasu. If you don’t want to spend the whole time on the lake or in the desert there is also a casino for you people twenty-one and over, or you can take the ferry across the lake and go to the city of lake Havasu city in Arizona. One could possibly go shopping or going to see a movie. This place has many good things about it and that is why I love it and I know you will too.

Buddhism, Christina Duong February 21, 2007

Filed under: Around the World, Different Cultures — chrisprice1955 @ 11:42 pm

Buddhism is an interesting religion that one does not recognize most of the time. At times the religion is so scarce that it is almost forgotten. Buddhism is a religion that shows you how to live life to the fullest. Buddhists believe in following a path to enlightenment. Siddhartha Gotama, also known as Buddha, has brought Buddhism upon us. Buddhism is a religion that focuses on the beauty of life. To that, Buddhism believes that luxury and wealth should be the least of our concern. Buddhism is usually represented by a statue of Buddha with hands laid gently on its lap, with a compassionate smile. The statue encourages one to strive to develop peace and love within ourselves. Buddhism is taught in many different ways depending on one’s custom. One thing that one can learn from Buddhism is that in life there are many obstacles one must go through, and it may not be easy but if one can know how to live one’s life it can lead them to true happiness. It also can teach one to always stay moral. “The moral code within Buddhism is the precepts, of which the main five are: not to take the life of anything living, not to take anything not freely given, to abstain from sexual misconduct and sensual overindulgence, to refrain from untrue speech, and to avoid intoxication, that is, losing mindfulness.” Overall, Buddhism teaches one to always stay true to oneself and not only should one believe in the words of Buddha but to go and actually experiment for oneself. Be responsible for ones action and understandings.

Is Homework Too Much? by Amber Carrillo February 21, 2007

Filed under: Current Events, Debates — chrisprice1955 @ 11:42 pm

When you enter your freshmen year you don’t realize how much work is put into high school, its very eye opening for most students. But as the years go on, students start to get part time jobs they become more involved with school activities and they become more independent as they get older. Now with all of this busyness going on, one would believe that school work could be manageable, but to the students it is a harsh reality. Some teachers don’t realize that students do have other classes and have other obligations. Not trying to say that teachers are unsympathetic but they need to realize that students have other commitments in other courses, and my also have jobs or planning on taking the SAT’s. It becomes almost impossible to manage all of these things at once. One student says, “I have limited time on my hands, but yet I struggle to turn in all of my work on time even if that means sleeping for only five hours.” When you think of it home work is supposed to be a very useful tool trying to get one to further understand the concept that they are learning not to keep them up half of the night. Another student had said, “at times I don’t even remember what we did.” So if teachers are going to give us work at least make it more meaningful and something that we are going to use in the future, but that also meets the requirements of graduating high school. A recent study from Duke University found out that after a maximum of two hours of homework, any learning benefits start to diminish for high scholars. Some countries have come to a conclusion of the homework overload so Japan, Denmark and the Czech Republic teachers are assigning less homework on average than their U.S. counterparts. And when to come to terms that whole process of no child left behind, most teachers really disagree with that process every child has different abilities. Since everyone is always talking about how not to cheat or commit plagiarism maybe if the stress and work load is reduced then the need, or urge to cheat will moderate. If you feel like homework is ruling your life, experts suggest having a conversation with the teachers who are overloading you. If discussing the problem solo sounds intimidating, you could get a group together to formally discuss home work with your principal, or attend school board meetings and put homework on the agenda. Another option is considering a change to your schedule. Being realistic about your free time after school could lead to less stress in the long run.

Endangered Monkeys by TJ Reed February 21, 2007

As a calm and docile monkey sits on his branch on a warm African day, life could not be better as he reaches a across for a banana. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye a bullet comes, zooming towards his furry little chest. Darkness closes in on him as he moves closer to the white light. Thoughts of never being able to see his new born monkey son climb and run around as he once desired to. His fist slowly unlatches as the banana he once held dear to was a trap and his overall demise. Life has been lost for the end result of a small high for the poacher who shot them.
In the entire world, over 200 hundred species of monkeys rule the earth. With some little ones such as the pygmy marmoset and unique others such as the holy Siberian, monkeys come in all shapes and sizes. However, be forewarned for these lovable creatures for nothing gold can stay. More and more everyday monkeys find themselves on the wrong side of a bullet, getting a cap busted on them for no reason except eating a banana.
People, friends, and monkeys, I ask you as a concerned citizen and admirer of these intellectual creatures to stand up now and join the revolution to help these monkeys. If we do not help these monkeys, then tell me who will? Life is being torn apart around us as we merely sit and focus our attention to other animals such as dogs and cats. Other foundations, such as one based out of Oregon , let “you pay 10 dollars a month to support a monkey and help them live the dream that every primate has and lusts for. Join me now, for if you do not, they may not have a tomorrow.”

Music Today by Danielle McCourt February 21, 2007

It’s funny to look at how much music has changed over the years like back in the day when our parents , grandparents and great grand parents would listen to Elvis, the Beatles , Queen , Thin Lizzie and The Eagles and now we see all of these new bands coming up with music that brings it all back. Now we listen to all sorts of different music. We have rap, hip hop, country, screamo, rock and Classical rock. Over time music has become a part of our life it is almost everywhere we go. We are even coming out with new technology to listen to the new music. The I pod lets us listen to our music wherever we go without having to worry about any cords or anything like that. I think what attracts us teenagers to music is that it expresses how we feel in moments we can’t even explain ourselves. It help us learn things we haven’t even had a chance to experience yet. Some of the artist is older and more mature than we are and help us see that people go through the same things we go through. We aren’t the only one who has gone through those things. Life isn’t as easy as we all think it is everyone has they’re problems and hardships but when you hear that one song that can explain that very exact moment it can give you goose bumps. As to everything there is a good and bad to music and this has always been a big controversy sometimes the artists are to explicit and cuss and sometimes they say inappropriate things that should never have been said but my view on this subject is that if you don’t like what they are saying then you shouldn’t listen to the song, you have the choice to sit they’re and listen to whatever is playing and if you are mature then you will just accept it or you can change it. Just always think of music as a privilege it is a pretty amazing gift to be able to get up and sing something that you might now want the whole world hearing that takes guts and heart.

Going to college can be one exciting adventure or a terrifying experience. However the truth of the matter is that everyone has to go to college if they want to support themselves and make a decent amount of money. If this is what you want then college is the right choice for you. It may sound scary having to complete all of those applications and taking the SAT or the ACT. However, if you really take a look at it, it’s easier than you think because you have been preparing for it since Kindergarten. If you think that you have to get straight A’s and perfect scores on your SAT or ACT to get into college, you are wrong. Today many colleges accept students that get B’s, and even accept students with C’s.
Another thing that many don’t realize is if you apply and do not get into the college of your dreams, you can go to a junior college and apply again as a transfer student. When you go to a junior college and apply again to a four year university, your chances of getting in will be much higher than they were the first time you applied.
Depending on what you want to major in, can help you decide what college best suits your interests. College can offer a whole lot more than just an education. It can offer a variety of life changing experiences. College will also set you up for the rest of your life, helping you grow as an individual not only academically, but socially too.
There are a lot of opportunities that come with going to college. First you can get a better and higher paying job. Fallen Hearts by Cynthia Martinez February 21, 2007

Have you ever wondered about the chances of staying with your high school sweet heart? Many think that they have found the right one, but what are the chances that it’s bound to last? Young people are constantly dating, so there will be more opportunities for broken hearts. Statistics show that maintaining a relationship through high school and into college is unlikely to happen. However, even though the numbers are set to be very low, there is always still a chance. One third (35%) of Americans today say they have been through a break up at least once in the past ten years.
Many can forget about the bright side of a relationship. It is when cupid shoots his arrow and they live happily ever after. However the less romantic side of this is “the break up”. Market Facts set a survey to see what the statistics of keeping a relationship are today. Based on their statistics, Americans under age 35 are twice as likely as those between 35 and 54, and nearly 5 times as likely as those 55 and older to have split with a partner in the past. 59 percent of the people who took this survey that were between the ages 35 and 54 said that they experienced a break up with a high school sweet heart thinking that they were “the one”. Compared with 31 percent of those between 35 and 54 just 12 percent have had a break up.
Looking at the bright side though, there are always stories of actual couples that have managed to stay together. For example, Allen Iverson, former basketball player of the NBA 76ers, who is now happily married to his high school sweet heart. Also, college seems to be a key factor for a breaking up relationship since this is a crucial step where many decide to go their separate ways. However you shouldn’t let the numbers bring your hopes down. If you think you have found Mr. Right and you seem to deal well with his bad habits, time will tell you what will happen for the future.

Define a man with a mission to leave the world a better place, and then we found it. Is it even possible that there is such a man who cares more about his students then his own personal life? Well there is one man who is out there for something better then the money. Mr. Kavigan is one of the few who exercises perseverance and determination through his students. He creates not only a fun environment to learn, but he has creative ways to keep students active and determined to get the A.
As a teacher for over 15 years Mr. Kavigan states, “I want to teach because I wanted to make a difference in the world today. I look back on some of my teachers I had in the past, and realize the impact they created in my life. So I’ve always wanted to have that power to impact a students life leaving them not only book smart, but street smart as well to become a top notch human in the American society.”
As Kavigan started off at Canyon High, just after graduating Cal Sate Fullerton, he was on track in pursuing his passion, educating students. Shortly after, he attended Rialto Middle School, then on to Rialto High School, and soon found his nesting ground at Foothill High School. As a major in Political Science and a minor in U.S. History he exclaims, “I love what I am and what I do for the students and potential leaders of America.”
So how is Kavigan defined? If I had to guess I would only imagine the dictionary would spell out; Kavigan- A man of integrity designed to help the American society by teaching the students of today not only books but street smarts as well.

Should we start another war? by Joseph Garcia February 21, 2007

Filed under: Around the World, Current Events, Debates — chrisprice1955 @ 11:36 pm

There is a war going on over in Iraq but another war may start involving the U.S. and Iran. On Sunday February 11, 2007 three U.S. defense officials Accused Iran leaders of providing weapons to Shiites Muslims in Iraq. And they have proof of this. But Iran hasn’t said any thing about this. Many experts say that the bombs Shiites have are armor-piercing bombs in which they don’t come from Iraq. The only place they can come from is Iran also some of the material that is in the bomb is only made in factories in Iran and the serial number tells the U.S. where the bombs originally came from, Iran. These bombs have taken the lives of 170 coalition troops which are five percent of the coalition forces that have been killed in Iraq. In the past 6 months the attacks have worsen. This worries a lot of soldiers because these bomb can pierce through there car and kill them. They were also saying that the Shiites have close ties to Iran. The United States does have enough proof to accuse Iran, but it is not Iran’s fault they can illegally steal the weapons and sell them. I’m sure Iran doesn’t want the bomb to be used to kill innocent lives but there is nothing they can do about it. The U.S. said that they did not want to go to war with Iran but with every thing that is going on there is a small chance this may happen. All the U.S. did was to tell Iraq this and to tell Iran to stop selling weapons to Shiites. All we could do is watch and see what happen next and hope that our lives and our loved troop’s lives will not be put in danger.

Will They Ever Finish the 22 Freeway? by Tom Ribaudo February 21, 2007

Filed under: Current Events, Tustin, the city I live in — chrisprice1955 @ 11:35 pm

The Garden Grove Freeway (or the 22) started construction to open the flow of traffic on the freeway. In the beginning they built the freeway thinking that everything was high-quality, but after further examination, Orange County officials have realized that it was not built completely and correctly. Because of this, they have started a new construction process which has been under construction since May 2005. This twelve mile stretch only had three lanes and caused horrible traffic everyday. For this reason, they have started building more lanes and to create an easier flow. The only problem is that it is taking longer than projected and is causing massive problems in the community.
In order to fix all the problems of the freeway, they have now added four to five lanes, instead of the three it had before. They have also built many more bridges and easier passes to transition to other freeways. The cost of this entire project was to be about $550 million dollars. Since the start of this they have been working hard just about every night setting up all new lanes, painting lines and doing everything needed to complete the freeway.
As I stated, it’s taking much longer than projected. In fact, on the California Construction website, it was said to have been finished by Thanksgiving in 2006. Well the deadline has come and gone, and there’s still construction going on. Transportation officials are starting to get frustrated with the contractor on the job and since missing the deadline, they have been fining the contractor $5000 dollars for everyday the construction continues on the freeway. This fine will stay at $5000 unless construction still keeps going after a March deadline that has been set for the completion of this long and tiring process.

Music Piracy is Stealing by Scott Eberle February 21, 2007

Most people would never steal, whether it is shop lifting or stealing money. Why then do people illegally download music? It is stealing, is it not? When you illegally download music you not only steal from the artist, but you take money from every person that helped make the song or album. There are many people behind the scenes when making a song or album, there are the people who work in the recording booths, the people who make the CD’s and the people that sell the CD’s in stores. When you don’t buy CD’s from stores it causes the store to go out of business, when the store goes out of business, and the artist sells less copies which makes the artist place a smaller order to the CD manufacturing business. This process goes on and on, and music stores go out of business, and the companies that help make CD’s have to lay people off. Aside from the illegal part of illegal downloading you also must open your computer to the internet, with no way of checking the files you download until it is too late, you could download spy ware or a virus, which can destroy your computer files to the point where you might lose everything you have on it, including your illegally downloaded music.

Medical Marijuana for AIDS Patients by Michelle Duong February 21, 2007

Since most AIDS patients suffer from a condition called neuropathy, a painful burning numbness that can strike the feet and hands, a group conducted a research to look for a drug that can ease the pain.
In this research, fifty men smoked marijuana three times a day, five times a week. Of the fifty men, twenty-five men smoked the full strength marijuana and the other twenty-five smoke a weakened version of the drug. Those that smoked the full strength version of the drug showed a thirty-four percent reduction in pain. Along with smoking the drug, there was a minor side effect the patient did get high. Though they were high, their level of highness did not affect the patients in motor tasks or any other errands. Just to make sure that the patient does not smoke so much and exceed the proper level of highness, some researchers suggested that they turn the drug into a pill.
Even though these researches show a great improvement in the patients’ foot, some are still scared to smoke the drug. They fear that by smoking the marijuana, the patient may develop lung cancer. Researchers said that the patients did not need to worry about that because studies show that the patients actually have a lower risk of lung cancer than other.
So should AIDS patients begin smoking marijuana to help ease the burning numbness in their foot and hands?

Flash Flood in Jakarta, Indonesia by Kathyrn Bustard February 21, 2007

Filed under: Around the World, Current Events — chrisprice1955 @ 11:33 pm

On January 2nd, 2007 fifty-seven people were killed by a flash flood tragedy, and the death poll is still rising. The floods ripped many buildings apart and drowned many villages. Survivors scrambled to the second stories of their homes and awaited help without any use of phone service. Jumiin, a local of the islands stated, “I thought it was the end of the world when the floods attacked houses and shops in my village,” a survivor sheltering at a local school. “Thank God, we managed to save ourselves.” Dead chickens, diseases and contaminated, brown water fill most of the streets of Indonesia. In Central Jakarta, residents had mud and garbage covering their homes and streets. Farmers were awfully affected by the floods, losing all their crops and plants. “I have nothing,” said Marda, 43. “The plants, all the money that went to buying fertilizer, hiring mini-tractors. Gone.” The farmers don’t have anything left and will have to start all over. Most of the farmers are sitting by the muddy road, desperately begging for food.
Thirty-six of the fatalities were by electrocutions, therefore the government shut off the electricity. Clean water was also off and thousands of people were forced to leave their underwater, tattered homes. “I’m thinking about all my valuable things, because all my house is flooded. Only the roof is visible,” said Wijiwati, a woman in North Jakarta. Many banks were closed, and survivors afraid of food shortages piled up on food from the grocery store. The grocery stores are now empty except for the rotting vegetables and fruit.
The hospitals are extremely crowded with patients. Emergency supplies were sent with rice and noodles. Illnesses caused by rats and polluted water are spreading. People have been infected with leptospirosis, typhoid, dysentery, and many of the child patients have diarrhea. There is enough medicine, but some of the hospitals do not even have enough doctors, nurses, and beds. Some residents are staying in with neighbors, schools, and anyplace they can find. Augustina Rusli stated, “The government is awful,” who spent four days on the second floor of her suburban house with her 10-month-old baby. “We have a neighbor who is sick with cancer, but no one has come to rescue her.” Another man believed that they should have been warned and that nobody should have died. Tropical downpours, floods, and landslides occur every year in the archipelago of these 17,000 islands.

Movie Review: Catch and Release by Kayla Dean February 21, 2007

This newly out coming movie has got everyone talking. Jennifer Gardner was a huge hit. She played a woman where her almost to be husband dies, and as she tries to forget about him, she uncovers some past secrets of his. She wants to try and find another man that will wont hurt her, or leave her the way her old love did. Jennifer finally finds her mystery man, and did not have to look too far for him.
The critics gave “Catch and Release” three and a half stars rating. Many say “This movie was cute and pretty good; its only fault was its length.” Catch and Release was a little over two and a half-hours long.
Many who have already viewed this film recommend it to others, especially girls, because it is more of a chick flick. If you do not wish to view this movie in the theaters, defiantly rent it when it becomes available on DVD and VHS. Overall “Catch and Release” was a funny, time killing movie that is most defiantly worth the watch.

El Modena High School’s Principal Resigned by Russell Crouch February 21, 2007

The Principal at El Modena resigned from the Orange Unified School District. It was mandatory to resign on January 25 th, due to a misdemeanor charge against him for lewd conduct in public. One of his main concerns was the focus of the students on their schoolwork, and not the consequences for himself. A sting operation was involved in his arrest on December 27th, when a male undercover officer from the Fullerton Police Department at the Brea Dam Park. Officials say he was cited for misdemeanor then released. As soon as the district caught word of the charge, they placed him on leave. For seven years of being principal at Richland Continuation School, and being appointed Principal at El Modena High School July of 2005, and assistant principal at Orange High School, Bailey appeared in court and he requested a postpone in his case, and is scheduled to reappear in court on February 20, 2007.
Some parents are saying that even teachers are making jokes about the principal, which doesn’t seem right according to them. The teachers should be spending more time on teaching than making fun of the principal. Also most students, former students and parents all have made a comment that they have enjoyed Bailey as a principal, and think that he shouldn’t have to resign from being principal, just because of this, but we will have to wait to see the results of the conviction.

The two most common forms of the Air Force 1’s are the all white and all black pairs. Air Force 1’s are also customized. The Mid-Top Air Force 1 is a variation of the shoe and comes with a non-removable strap and a higher top. In 1987 the Air Force 2’s were released . The shoe can be custom made in any color, but typically it has either a white or black based background color with almost any color used to fill in the Nike Swoosh and back heel.
In celebration of this 25th anniversary those who continue to define it honor those who made the Air Force 1. KRS-ONE, Rakim, Kanye West and Nas have come together with legendary producer Rick Rubin to create an original track that was performed live for one time only.
For the first time ever a collection of 1,040 unique pairs of Air Force 1’s, assembled from the Nike archives and key collectors attending the celebration, will be on display. This one time only collection will feature some of the most sought after shoes from the Air Force 1’s past and the yet to be released Air Force 25.

Do Colors Affect Our Every Day Lives? by Gaby Castro February 21, 2007

What triggers moods? It may be the situation you’re in, people, a problem or maybe even colors surrounding you. A color does not only make clothing seem fashionable, a home more sophisticated, or art work seem more fascinating, but it affects the human’s everyday lives. “Why are people more relaxed in green rooms? Why do weightlifters do their best in blue gyms?” Color Psychology, David Johnson. Why do doctors wear white and why do nurses wear light blue and pink? Most individual colors do not only have a special significance, but can also change our state of mood and performance.
Colors symbolize many different things, but not in all culture do colors represent the same thing. Black may not only be one of the most popular colors in the world, but it also signifies capitulation and compliance. The example given by David Johnson is when priests often wear black. They are signifying “submission to God.” Black’s opposite color, white, signifies virtue and purity. It is said that doctors wear white because it also signifies sterility. The color green is concerned with nature, the environment and ecology. All colors symbolize different things but it all varies in cultures.
Psychologically, colors change humans’ moods and performance. It is said that nurse wear the colors light blue and pink because it relaxes their patients. Another color that relaxes people is the color green. “…red hues increase bodily tension and stimulate the autonomic nervous system…” Wikipedia. Red also increases heart rate and breathing. It is proven that people fight more often in yellow rooms and babies cry more in yellow rooms. “Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads. It also speeds metabolism.” Color of Psychology, David Johnson. Fast food restaurants often use the colors red and yellow because they make you hungrier, waste more money and make you loose track to time. Colors affect people more than they are aware of, and even though colors are not a huge part of life, they too have their own significance.

An Ex-football Player Declares War On Fatherless-ness in America by Mary Lee Tandy-McGlasson February 21, 2007

Filed under: Current Events, Tustin, the city I live in — chrisprice1955 @ 11:29 pm

Today headlines flash news about the war in Iraq, but unfortunatley 51% of all children in America go to sleep with out the voice of their father in their homes. Many people are aware of the physical battle in the world, but who is fighting for the family values and the fathers raising the next generation? Ed Tandy-McGlasson a former Professional footbal player in the NFL is now the Pastor of the Church, The Stadium Vineyard of Anahiem, and declares that he is fighting for fathers by simply telling fathers, sons, and daughters what it is that they are missing in their lives, and explains why they spend thier lives performing various acts to seek their fathers aproval.
Before Ed was born, his father, Ed Tandy, died in a fatal plane accident when his Furry III Jet malfunctioned on a test run in Monteray Bay California. In attempts to save the civilians lives, who were on the beach, he took his jet into the ocean, leaving Ed an orphan. His mother later married a sub-marine commander of the U.S. Navy, Dan McGlasson. Dan raised Ed, as a step father, and one day he changed his life forever. Ed was 14 when his dad was leaving on one of his excursions when he realized that he had the car keys left inside his pocket to their VW Bug. Ed’s mother refused to drive a stick so Dan threw Ed the keys and said over the whole crowd, „“Ed! Today you are a MAN! Drive your Mother home.“ That public declaration in his life changed in forever from a little boy into a man.
Ed says that today people live to hear these words from their fathers, “I believe in you“. These simple words are lacking in most people’s lives today. So, the reprocusion’s of this reality is that people are looking else where to find the love, comfort, and acceptence that they never got from their fathers. “David Poenoe argues that the absence of strong paternal presence at home is the primary force behind the most disturbing problems that plague American society: crime and delinquency, premature sexuality and out-of wedlock births, poor educational achievment, addiction and alienation among adolescence, and poverty for women and children (The politics of fatherlessness in America by Cynthis R. Daniel).“ People turn to relationships, work, success, money, fame, drugs, alcohol, and other addictions to try and satisfy the missing love of the father in their lives. Also, “Fatherlessness results in (…) life without emotional, moral, or economic support of father (The politics of fatherlessness in America by Cynthis R. Daniel).“ Ed says in America, people are living their lives earn approval rather then living from the approval of the father. What would the difference be in the world if people lived from the love of their father rather then living to receive or sustain it?
Statistics about fathers from http://fathersforlife.org/divorce/chldrndiv.htm:
• 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes.
o [U. S. D.H.H.S. Bureau of the Census]
• 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes.
• 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes.
o [Center for Disease Control]
• 80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes.
o [Criminal Justice and Behavior, Vol. 14 p. 403-26]
• 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes.
o [National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools]
• 70% of juveniles in state operated institutions come from fatherless homes
o [U.S. Dept. of Justice, Special Report, Sept., 1988]
• 85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home.
o [Fulton County Georgia Jail Populations and Texas Dept. of Corrections, 1992]
• Nearly 2 of every 5 children in America do not live with their fathers.
o [US News and World Report, February 27, 1995, p.39]
What does this mean? Children from fatherless homes are:
• 4.6 times more likely to commit suicide,
• 6.6 times to become teenaged mothers (if they are girls, of course),
• 24.3 times more likely to run away,
• 15.3 times more likely to have behavioral disorders,
• 6.3 times more likely to be in a state-operated institutions,
• 10.8 times more likely to commit rape,
• 6.6 times more likely to drop out of school,
• 15.3 times more likely to end up in prison while a teenager.

The Statistcis are terifying. Ed claims that God put this on his heart because God’s heart is broken over the lack of fathers in his people’s lives. In 2005 Ed wrote a book called, The Difference a Father Makes which equips Dads how to on make a difference in the lives of their children and how to get the blessing if your father is not in your life anymore. Ed believes that no one is hopeless and that all can receive the blessing of the father. Through Ed Tandy-McGlasson’s non-profit ministry thousands of people have heard for the first time in thiers lives that their dads love and believe in them.

Current Event By Natalie Gabler February 21, 2007

On February 10 at approximately 10:02 am at the Tustin Home Depot an employee was shot after trying to stop a robbery. Home Depot has offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information to leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death. The night crew, which takes care of stocking and readying the store for the next day, usually finishes work at 6 a.m. Egan was working late when the shooting occurred he was shot as he came to the aid of the employee being robbed. The suspect, disguised as a painter, was in the process of robbing a cashier when the night operations manage confronted the suspect, who opened fire. The suspect also might have been wearing a hard hemet and some sort of mask. Without provocation, the gunman turned and shot the employee once in the torso, at least one time, and continued on with the robbery, exiting out in the front to a waiting getaway car driven by a second suspect dressed in possibly a similar disguise. The minivan was last seen traveling east on El Camino Real toward Jamboree Road. I think that this is such a tragic thing to have happened to someone. Although in my opinion the best thing you can do during a robbery is corporate this man was trying to do the right thing. I hope all is going well with his family, and I hope something like this never happens again.
