Djing is something that i am fairly new at, however i believe that i have substantially progressed from where i was when i first started. It all began around May of last year when i started hanging out with Bryan Caudill. He is by far the most talented Dj at Foothill High School, and possibly all of Tustin and Santa Ana. B Suave’s incredible mash ups and smooth style have gained him the most prestigious reputation at Foothill. He began teaching me with extreme patience and support. Learning how to work the tables and the mixer is probably one of the most difficult things i have ever decided to do, but once you learn it everything seems to click, and from then on flows naturally. Being a DJ means that you have to feel the music, but more importantly you need to be able to do what we call “read the crowd”. Your audience is the life of the party just as much as you are, and the more people you have dancing, the better the party will be. Reading the crowd consists of mixing different genres of music to see how the crowd reacts to each one. Once you find one they enjoy such as Electro or Dubstep you dig deep into your endless files of music and withdraw all of the most popular artists’ songs. From there you just feel it, and begin beat-matching to create something different and unique. Its definitely cool being able to do mash ups that are entirely your own, and at the same time learn to perform your buddies mixes so that it keeps things fresh, and that one show is never the same as the last.
